Before you pledge
Why don’t you charge upfront?
A subscription gets paid whether it works or not. We only earn when a pledge is charged, so we want your blocker to work and the rules to stay fair. The app is free either way.
Isn’t this gambling?
No. Nothing is paid out to anyone, and nothing depends on chance. It depends only on you, and the best case is that your money stays yours.
What if Clearing gets it wrong?
Device signals are evidence, not proof. Before any charge you get a 48-hour notice with the evidence: category, time, device. Appeal in the app or by email. A person reads it, and nothing is charged while it’s open.
What happens if I relapse?
Report it yourself and you have 10 minutes to undo. Then the 48-hour notice starts. If the pledge is charged, it ends and your streak starts again.
Can I use Clearing without money?
Yes. Blocking, check-ins and the panic button work without a pledge. The honor pledge keeps the same rules for $0.
Does it work on my Mac and iPad?
Yes. Clearing is one free app for iPhone, iPad and Mac. Link each device with a 6-digit code and one pledge covers them all. The Mac gets a content filter for every app and a status light in the menu bar. You need iOS 18, iPadOS 18 or macOS 15 or later.
Who is Clearing not for?
Anyone under 18. Anyone who’d be hurt by losing the amount: take the honor pledge. Anyone whose gambling already costs money they can’t spare: call a helpline first.
